Even if Brown Loses [Jonah Goldberg]

It looks better and better for Brown, but it's worth repeating that even if he loses, the mere fact that it was close is a massive repudiation of the White House and the Democrats. Everyone's trying to come up with historical analogies. I think Harris Wofford in 1991 is a good one. But what keeps coming to my mind is LBJ in 1968. Obviously, it's not really a direct comparison. But LBJ dropped his reelection bid after the New Hampshire primary because he only beat Eugene McCarthy by 7 points (lots of people mistakenly think LBJ lost in '68). That it was that close was enough for LBJ to get the message. Even if Brown loses, the message to the Democrats should be deafening.

White House to the Rescue [Kathryn Jean Lopez]

The same GOP operative is hearing that the White House has taken over their candidate's (it's safer to go without the name!) field operation. They feel like they have stopped the bleeding and they have a shot. Not that they are going to win but, less optimistically, that they still have a shot.."

He ads that "they are saying their numbers have them up — but that is W modeling that does not reflect this election and they know it. They are afraid a big loss would produce a diaspora in congress. That's why president had no choice but to go."
