I'm betting this is huge. msft had BETTER be a bit more
humble (in light of fof) and doj will probably be a bit less
caustic (in light of previous over-turns).

This guy 'heads the United States Court of Appeals in Chicago'
dailynews.yahoo.com

My understanding is that this is the next place the case would
go, assuming an appeal. Can some one confirm?

this is a MAJOR bone thrown to msft from the bad-ol judge.

I'd say this mediator will be a good proxy for the actual
court of appeals. If they can't work it out here, that means
it's going to the supreme court...

The perfect 'save face' move by the judge. He doesn't want
to be overturned. msft does not want a ruling. doj got
their 15 minutes of gloating fame..., though I think the doj
is the wild card. If they stick to the absurd idea that msft
is going to give away (or sell cheap) source code...., then
this will go all the way.., cuz that ain't gonna happen.

my forecast for a settlement.
-no more exclusivity agreements with oem's
-features added to windows will have regulatory control, but
will not be prohibited.
**and perhaps***
-a version of windows with no internet functionality??

perhaps not a perfect world, but as a shareholder I'd gladly
take a couple percent hit to margins to this thing dragging
on, and on...., and on
