announcement that Mako would be introducing a stock site "superior to Go2net" had anything to do with it.

That's a load of crap. What makes SI superior to all others is the people on it. The membership fee acts as a filter. SI could use some improvements (it'd be nice if it were your one stop shop for all the stock info and research you need, including L2 quotes) but hopefully the redesign will address some of those issues.

I figured a selloff was imminent - if I were a real ballsy trader I would have sold, but with the prospects of this company I think I'd rather be an investor and ride this puppy as far as she goes.
