It can be. It depends how its set up. Go into your network neighborhood icon and see if you can see other
objects in there. If you can, these are other people on your node.
I once was at a client's home who had cable and I looked in his Network Neighborhood icon. Saw three or four other icons. I double-clicked on one and could get all the way to the users's hard drive. Was tempted to leave a note on his desktop saying "Hi"! This was a little scary to me.
All of this depends on how you have your network protocols set up and if you have 'file and print sharing' turned on.

Scroll down and click on "Test my Shields". It will come back with a detailed report. And some relatively easy things you can do to prevent hacking. There are some yo-yo's who spend their entire time scanning for insecure PC's on the net.

I'm running Windows 2000, dial-up and have no other security stuff on. I was pleasantly surprised at how good a job it's doing in this area.
