Direct TV is still Ntsc and/or Pal video formats. DTV in Japan is different from the rest of the world. The problem is that digital transmission has a problem with ghost image which has no technology solution yet. So, I have proposed to use mixed signals for transmission. Meaning analog signals with digital compression codes for digital transmission. Congress and FCC has to fall back to that position of using DSP for receiving transmission of digital compression codes. DSP of that frequency has to used RF A to D conversion. In the old days only 8 bits were available. Today with 0.25 micron technology; 32 bit to even 64 bit A to D converters are possible. 2-8x over sampling is even possible with the speed of transistors running at 4-8+ ghz. How soon to reality, if specifications can be approved by FCC? Another two years.
