Obama Demagogues the Court's Ruling

Yup. And here's why:

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama on Saturday sharply criticized a Supreme Court decision easing limits on campaign spending by corporations and labor unions, saying he couldn't "think of anything more devastating to the public interest." Obama said the decision will make it harder to enact financial reforms, close tax loopholes, promote energy independence and protect patients from insurance company abuses — key elements of his domestic agenda.

Right. That irritating First Amendment is getting in the way of his implementing his "fundamental transformation of American society" again. When the two conflict, the First Amendment clearly comes in second.

I don't think the fallout from this ruling is going to be entirely positive. I think we'll see the current number and viciousness of campaign-ad attacks multiplied ad nauseam in future election cycles, for example. But the notion that freeing corporations (and unions) to appeal more directly to voters during campaigns is a "devastating" development that needs a "forceful bipartisan response" is appalling. Democracy is messy, Dear Leader. Deal with it.
