"Hearing horror stories about NAV re-installation I came to a conclusion that I will simply extend LiveUpdate for 1 year for my working NAV 2002 instead of buying NAV 2003. Are there good reasons to buy NAV 2003 instead of extending LiveUpdate?"

the differences between nav2002 and nav2003, afaik, are as follows.... whether one considers them compelling reasons to upgrade depends entirely upon the individual.

for one thing, symantec no longer supports nav2001. you're on your own, with the knowledge base at your disposal, if something goes wrong. but that's the extent of their support, if i am not mistaken. keeping nav2002 puts the user that much closer to support termination. some might point out that "symantec support" is a bit of an oxymoron anyway, so what would you be losing?

next, i'd say that virus program technology changes constantly. an example would be *outbound* email scanning... it's not available in nav2001, but it is in nav2002 & 2003. nav2001 just scans incoming email. so there is an advantage in that regard to upgrading to newer technology.

nav2003 also detects and blocks instant message attachment viruses, unlike nav2002.

plus i've read that nav2003 has enhanced worm blocking technology as well.

there may be more feature enhancements, but these are all i could come up with off the top.

imo, staying with nav2002 and just extending the virus def subscription will in no way put you in jeopardy. but you will be better off with nav2003.

how much better off is the question.

good luck
