If you are an undergraduate or a graduate student taking a course in 20th-century American history, you are unlikely to find the answers to those questions. They won't even be posed. Nor will the names or the works of the artists, composers, novelists, filmmakers and actors appear in the lectures or in the books assigned on the reading list. The vast majority of American historians no longer regard American culture — whether high culture or mainstream popular culture — as an essential area of study. ...

This professor and the author are pretty much idiots. Why? Because there is very little GENERAL American history taught at the college level. Why? Because that's mostly taught in the middle school and high school levels. When you do take American history on the college level its likely to have a great deal of specificity.......like looking at great American leaders of the 18th century.

As for lower level textbooks, the same ole heros and leaders like G. Washington and Abraham Lincoln are emphasized. No worries.......subversives do not rule the day.
