news.com

<< An IBM executive told the news conference that
Sanyo was the only company with which IBM
would have an alliance on system LSI chips for
digital consumer and network appliances.

Under the pact with IBM, Sanyo said it would be
able to access 0.18-micron and finer processing
technology and to obtain licensing for IBM's core
library, including PowerPC technologies.

The alliance also covers the design and manufacture
of chips for use in products such as digital
televisions, digital still cameras, and digital video
discs, it said.

Sanyo would manufacture such products at its
plants under license from IBM, it said.

Sanyo said it would conduct marketing and sales
activities in the consumer and network markets for
products that used IBM semiconductor
technologies. >>
