For any stock there are positives and negatives that can be used in a downgrade/upgrade statement. Generally after a stock fall, as it did here on the Montgomery spin, ie the "technicals" break down everyone in general looks for the Reason, as if "the market knows". If nothing shows downgrades are in order anyway. The converse happens when the stock rises. The price volatility is a source of great profit for brokers. How many of us bought a batch here at 26 and plan to short-term trade it back at 33? I'll plead guilty on that one myself.

As to whether the Fused Silica shortage is important, I tend to agree that it may be in the overall production of steppers - the quatrz used to make the optics, not the quartz used for the laser window. Assuming a large backlog for DUV lasers, and ample supplies to make them with a healthy ramp-up, the lasers are still, in effect, "on allocation" and orders would remain in place so as to stay at head of the queue.
