Washington Post Vows to Support Kerry Campaign with Ads Disguised as News
Brought to you by the Washington Post, a subsidiary of the DNC. Liberal Media Blog Kerry Vows To Restore Truth to Presidency ALBUQUERQUE-- President Bush has governed in a dishonest fashion, trampling values on every issue except fighting terrorism and leaving voters "clamoring for restoration of credibility and trust in the White House again," John F. Kerry and John Edwards said in an interview. Other juicy judgment from the ambiguously chummy duo: "The value of truth is one of the most central values in America, and this administration has violated" it.
"Their values system is distorted and not based on truth."
Kerry said they would wage that battle on their terms and not what he called the Republican Party's "little political, hot-button, cultural, wedge-driven, poll-driven values." We should be able to deal with this kind of electioneering rhetoric. It comes with the political territory. I can even handle the Post considering this some kind of news item: the quotes are the candidates', not the reporter's.
But you really have to wonder when you read this: With their ties loosened and shoes kicked off, the Democratic duo also vowed to forgo negative advertising in this presidential campaign-- an assertion that draws scoffs from Republicans who note that independent Democratic groups have pounded the president with millions of dollars in negative ads. (Not to mention partisan-screed books, polemic films...)
Well, maybe they will forgo negative advertising-- they can achieve the same purpose by vilifying Bush in an interview with the objective and neutral Post, who challenge nothing that is offered, then write headlines that wouldn't be out of place on a Kerry bumper sticker. Good strategy, and a lot cheaper. "We have not stood up and attacked our opponents in personal ways," Kerry said. To be fair, the article does not clearly indicate whether they sat down or stood up when they made the personal attacks quoted above.
Remember, calling someone a liar is nothing personal. thatliberalmedia.com |
