The disaster of Vietnam at the end was that we didn't just pull out our soldiers, we pulled out all support and allowed a massive conventional invasion to succeed.

Iraq is probably in less danger from a conventional invasion (well Iran could try, but I don't think they will, or that we would stand by and let it happen), which is just one way the situations are different, but they may be the same in that we mind wind up leaving and thus losing in a strategic sense, without ever being defeated.
