Thanks great post. I know this sounds stupid but can you tell me what the ghost or image software adds. If I copy my entire drive to the external drive, can I later restore that to the original drive?

I was thinking of doing that as my laptop drive is about 60 gb and I only use about 1/3 of that while the external is 200 gb. I thought I'd set up directories on the external for copies every month or so.

So what am I missing here? I take it partitions are better than directories as less likely to have whole drive become corrupt. But what about the imaging software. What does that add to just copying my entire drive?
