I received a direct mailing from Dell this afternoon. They were offering a Pentium II system with 16 Mb of RAM, 440LX motherboard and AGP video for $1,999. And their were two "bonus" dates: order before the first date, take of $250. Order before the second date, they throw in an additional 16Mb of SDRAM at no extra cost. That makes it $1,749 for PII, 32 Mb SDRAM, AGP Video. This price included a Sony monitor. It was supposedly a "limited" deal to a few "influential" customers. I'm not ready to buy, and this was a "pizza box" system, which I can't stand, but it was the best deal I've seen on a PII system (I can't remember the CPU speed or the hard drive size).
