I am sure Lipitor has a lot to do with it. The doctors, not really know what to do, have been hammering the first total, then LDL with statins relentlessly.

BTW, since you mentioned that you have always had low total cholesterol, an interesting question (actually, for more close minded doctors it is only a rhetorical question) would be, if their central hypothesis is that high cholesterol causes heart disease, how come you have it with low cholesterol. Also, how much difference lowering it even further make.
