FDA GIVES MARKET CLEARANCE TO PARK MEDITECH INC.
for MCAT (Modular Coded Aperture Technology)
MONTREAL, March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Park Meditech Inc. (the "Company") stated today that they had received 510(k) approval from the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) to market its MCAT (works-in-progress) collimator in the United States.
C. Richard Mullen, President & CEO, stated that "once again, as with our introduction of the first truly-digital camera to the market, PMSI has taken the lead in nuclear medicine. At the RSNA (Radiological Society of North America) meeting in December, PMSI showed the first clinical image acquired with the MCAT, which demonstrated a significantly increased image, quality and sensitivity. Doctors and physicists visiting our booth were visibly excited, saying the technology could be a significant breakthrough in oncology imaging. Our next goal is to showcase the MCAT module, as well as additional clinical images, at the June 1997 SNM (Society of Nuclear Medicine) meeting in San Antonio, Texas."
Mullen explained that "Park's MCAT is a practical solution for improving gamma ray imaging at all energy levels, as compared to "Coincidence Detection" which is limited to using a very small portion of the available radiopharmaceuticals. With this technology, the already significant system sensitivity and resolution of our SMART Digital(TM) camera is greatly enhanced, while maintaining the capability of simultaneous dual-isotope imaging with all available radiopharmaceuticals at all energy levels."
