Broadcom to Expand Corporate Headquarters At Irvine Spectrum

Business Editors

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 25, 1998--Broadcom Corp.,
a leading developer of highly integrated communications semiconductors
that enable broadband digital data transmission to the home and within
the business enterprise, will expand its corporate headquarters in
Irvine Spectrum, a 5,000-acre research, technology and business park
at the hub of Southern California's Technology Coast.
"To accommodate our growth, we have been occupying four different
buildings in the area. Having all of our Irvine based employees in one
location will streamline internal communications," said Dr. Henry T.
Nicholas, III, Broadcom's president and chief executive officer.
"We originally chose Irvine Spectrum for our corporate
headquarters because of its ease of access, its collection of
technological companies and educational institutions for recruiting,
and its proximity to desirable residential areas for our employees."
Broadcom (Nasdaq: BRCM) will lease a facility at the Irvine
Spectrum recently purchased by The Irvine Company from AST Corp.
Broadcom will lease approximately 160,000 square feet in one
three-story and one two-story building at the former AST campus. AST
continues to lease one of the buildings from The Irvine Company in the
three building complex for its corporate headquarters. Terms of the
transaction were not released.
"Broadcom's decision to remain and expand in the Irvine Spectrum
is yet another example of this region's ability to nurture and attract
technology companies and the highly skilled workers that make them
successful," said Clarence Barker, president of the Irvine Industrial
Company, a subsidiary of The Irvine Company. "We remain very bullish
on Irvine and Orange County. With companies like Broadcom moving here,
we are optimistic that this region will continue to thrive at the
heart of the technology coast."
Irvine Spectrum is The Irvine Company's international center for
business, research and technology located at the confluence of the San
Diego (I-405) and Santa Ana Freeways (I-5). Encompassing 5,000 acres,
the Irvine Spectrum is home to more than 2,200 companies and over
44,000 employees with core industries that include biotechnology,
computers, electronic components, communications, engineering and
software.
