FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 21, 1997--SyQuest Technology, Inc., (NASDAQ:SYQT), today announced the appointment of John Moran as director of North and South American distribution sales.
For the past two years, Moran had been U.S. distribution manager for Iomega Corporation. (NOTE: See SyQuest Technology on the World Wide Web at: syquest.com.
Moran, the second sales executive to exit Iomega for SyQuest in recent months, will report directly to Gary Jones, executive vice president of sales, and be responsible for growing the channel sales of SyQuest products. Jones joined SyQuest from a top Iomega sales executive position in April.
"John Moran has an exemplary record of aggressively expanding the distribution of leading edge computer products for some of the country's best known manufacturers. As SyQuest takes new steps to reposition its products as more than just a place to store your stuff, John will have one of the key tactical roles in boosting both U.S. and international sales," Jones said.
Moran has more than 12 years experience in increasing the sales and distribution of technology-based products. Before joining Iomega he held regional sales management positions with computer products divisions of Panasonic and Toshiba America.
The move to bolster SyQuest's sales through traditional as well as emerging distribution channels is in keeping with the company's announcement last week that it had retained the services of The Silakhan Route, Inc.
A global marketing firm under the direction of Paul Losee, one of the original 13 IBM executives who founded Iomega, The Silakhan Route is developing an aggressive marketing campaign designed to reposition SyQuest, the company that created removable cartridge hard disk drives, and retake market leadership.
Together, Moran, Jones and Losee bring more than two decades of experience at Iomega in sales and marketing direction to bear on SyQuest's repositioning efforts.
