Additional foreign stocks in the S&P 500: NT is a good example, other Canadian stocks in the 500 include Alcan, Barrick Gold, Placer Dome and Inco. Other foreign stocks include Unilever and Royal Dutch Shell. There are a few others but I can't remember them right now. JDSU/JDU is the only stock in both the TSE 300 and NASDAQ 100. I'd love to see JDSU in the 500, but the selection committee looks at plenty of things besides market cap - as you pointed out. The committee could say that they have enough exposure to optical networking through NT, LU etc. On the other hand, they could recognize the importance of the sector and toss JDSU in. David
