Holy Cow
For some wine lovers, nothing can compare with the pleasure of owning one's own vineyard and staining one's hands with the fruit of the vine. Now Swiss cheese lovers can take a similar pleasure, renting their own cow. Paul and Helga Wyler, cattle farmers in Brienz area of the Bernese Oberland, have begun to lease some of their 50 cows to people willing to spend 380 Swiss francs ($275) per summer and 40 Swiss cents for each liter of milk their beast produces, Reuters reported. The customers, mostly city dwellers from the Zurich area, also have to work at least one day in the meadow to earn their cheese, which the farm produces in the fall. And the amount of cheese seems worth the price. Each cow yields enough milk to make 155 to 265 pounds of cheese.
