harry..cpq for a decade grew w/o acquisitions. this is what 's so
unusual and fantastic about their growth.. but it appears that
they are buying up the network technology. they purchased thomas conrad and raptor and wasn't the other one networth.
They have strong alliance with cabletron and cisco.
I don't have an opinion other than their track record so far is to buy
the technology.. You have to also remember that cpq was the first billion dollar mfg company to run the business world wide off of ditributed networks... even companies like hp that had minis
used mainframes til 1987-8.
cpq knows what a distibuted network needs to do to run a 20 billion dollar company off one network instead of a bunch of fragmented pieces. They have a project going now that will run their MRP/CRP
in seconds for the entire world and factor in channel inventory.
With the channel inventory in the puzzle then you don't thave to guess at much of your demand. In theory they want a supplier chain management system that when a pc sells at a dealer then prodcution line gets instrcutions for make just 1 and send it to dealer.
They are using TQM/JIT practices to make lot size 1 the same
cost as lot size 100.
