[ Back to the News | Back HOME ]

Nikkei English News via NewsEdge
Corporation : TOKYO (Nikkei)--Kenwood
Corp. plans a September debut in the U.S.
and Europe for two new digital videodisk
players, a high-end model priced at 2,500
German marks, and a mid-range model for
1,700 marks.

The company also plans to begin selling the
two models in China, including Hong Kong, in
time for the year-end gift-giving season.

Strong sales in overseas markets have many
companies focusing their marketing efforts
on the U.S., Europe and Asia. Fiscal 1998
sales projections estimate DVD player sales
in Japan at 300,000-500,000 units, while
combined overseas sales are projected at 2
million units.

Kenwood plans to produce the two DVD
players at a facility in Nagano Prefecture,
and is targeting a combined production of
about 10,000 units per year.
