As I said bb, I have personally settled margin calls for myself and others by boxing positions, both from short and long initial positions. I am speaking from actually having done it, not once, but numerous times. If you choose not to believe this that is your prerogative and I could not care less. But I am not wrong.

Your perspective is perhaps from an online firm which has no mechanism in place for effecting this transaction. It does, however, happen all the time with full service brokerage firms.
