Ok, Tench, there is a perfect example of spin and/or nuance since you have such a tough time recognizing it. Rush stated, unequivocally, that the soldiers who have made public statements about opposing the war are phony soldiers. The he uses a single example of a soldier who didn't serve in Iraq to make his case.
However, there are plenty who have gone on record as opposing the war who are actual, uniformed soldiers who have served in Iraq or currently are. So either Rush lied or those other soldiers are phonies too.
Ok, ok, you can try to defend him and say he was exaggerating to make a point. But "exaggerating" in this case is just spin. What he said was wrong on the face of it. At best, it describes a minority of the cases, at worst, it describes only one.
Now, in the link Rush says I was talking about one soldier with that phony soldier comment. Now that is nuance. His statements clearing were including all soldiers who have spoken out against the war. He even says "phony soldiers" more than once. Now, suddenly, he is trying to nuance his way out of it by claiming he was talking about the one.
Hope this helps. |
