As with any choice you make in life, there are tradeoffs. With only one sex partner in a lifetime, you lose something. Whether that loss is important or whether you gain enough in the bargain to compensate for the loss is a function of the interests and values of the individual. I don't see either choice as inherently and universally "strange." But I can understand how some people are not cut out for one or the other. If she said she couldn't imagine one or the other, that seems reasonable to me.
