Ref ATM (and also Frame Relay) service for Core Networking -- I'd like to add that Lucent just paid a premium price for Ascend ; not for the Ascend Remote Access devices, but primarily for the Cascade Communications' Core ATM and Frame Relay products. I would take this to mean that it will be a long time before the goal of "Dumb Networks" with all of the switching / and conversion brain - power located on the edges of these networks, will be met. Surely Remote Access products, utilizing dial up modems will turn to burnt toast..... but these Core Packet & Cell products will live on. Mardy.
