<<The math for these things seems elusive. Does anyone know, or could anyone know?>>
The basic point i was trying to make is as stated, take a walk thru the average home in the middle of the nite and count the number of the little red and other coloured lights that are on 24/7 times 365 including all the "LED" lighted clocks and other warning devices. Can the amp hours they use in a year be calculated ,certainly and for the country it would be astronomical. Is it necessary?Hell no.Anyone with a solar system, in short order learns this, and uses power bars and turns them off when not in use to eliminate the constant draw on battery banks. One other thought, i hear people dismissing solar systems as impractical and unworkable, but the fact is that ounce "all" appliances are as efficient as possible, then solar makes sense and is not as costly as portrayed, if it is supplying an efficient home. Here is a 12 volt solar freezer that works with only one 75 watt solar panel.I know people that own one.
