Paul, this is so true. The talk of mining costs, while not entirely irrelevant, misunderstands what is so special about diamond mining. The cost to mine a very rich deposit, no matter how expensive, almost doesn't matter...if you've got Jwaneng type grades you could be mining on the moon and it would still be economic.

If, on the other hand, the diamond content is low grade, with hardly any big diamonds, and the pipes' size/shape/distribution of stones is such that with a huge mining operation you'd only be pulling $5,000 worth of stones out of the ground, then cheap mining costs mean zilch. You've gotta have a helluva good grade to start up one of these mines.
