For comparison purposes, instead of comparing NC's to PC's, compare the cost of a Sony Playstation to a PC. It has high performance video and CPU, plus a CD and power supply, and can be had for less than $300. To be a good NC, it needs a keyboard ($30 or less), a little more memory, and some network connector/modem. If you use this as a basis, it is easy to see an under $500 price for an NC equivalent. The expansion capability of a PC has a very significant cost.
