GI/Wink box deal
General Instrument (GI) and Wink Communications of the US have agreed on delivering interactive and e-commerce software on GI's set-top boxes. The interactivity software rests on Wink Enhanced Broadcasting, which turns traditional TV programming into a dynamic experience.

David Robinson, GI's senior vice- president and general manager, said: "The Wink technology is highly scaleable, flexible and open, and adds tremendous value as a key application on GI's line of digital products."

The set-top boxes to carry the interactive software will include GI's DCT-2000, with a double-speed processor, increased memory and high-end graphics capabilities, and its CDT 5000+, built around the risc processor and high-end 3D and picture-in-graphics platform.and
