Not incredulous at all, Lynn. I just wanted to see if some of that large cache was usable to deploy, or the original wad was intact. I did the same thing with CSCO (we all have our stories...) but sold it all. I reached my upside goal.
Did I leave alot on the table? Sure?
Did I take away better than a double? Sure. I didn't want to be a pig. Am I back in CSCO now (many moons later and much higher?) Sure again.
Good companies are starting to emerge that you can hold forever. EMC wasn't always that way, and CSCO was a 100 lb gorilla once, too. Who knew? You did, I sorta did, but sold to ensure that my work (ie good pick) was rewarded. I don't call it instant gratification, but it's more instant than your's, I guess.
However, I commend you for your LT outlook/objective. I work in just a little different way, as I have a little bit of trader in everything I do.
As TraderEd said, there is a reasonable exit point, and you're not there yet. My take is that there are multiple entry and exit points on the continuum.
Right now, I am very tempted to "lock-in" the 15 points this puppy has moved very recently with a sell, or some option position to hedge this large gain. However, I know good things are coming, and have resisted this temptation. I will continue to monitor this, but thanks for sharing your perspective.
