Judith, Since the K7 will use the Alpha bus, Alpha chipset and you will be able to plug an Alpha chip into a K7 motherboard with a bios change I'd say that what you've been hearing about AMD and Compaq is a pretty much done deal. Nice upgrade path, eh? And we know Compaq has been working with AMD for a year know. Maybe Compaq buying DEC will reveal as yet unforseen opportunities... A K7-Alpha upgrade alliance would cost a lot less than having to buy all new Merced machines wouldn't it. Jim
