Diamond H: Yes. The shift is from basing investing on what you observe in the consumer market place is popular and buying the companies that produce those products to a more technology based business focus.

Buffet's position on coca cola was right when he bought, a less than optimum choice now. And on and on.

He was very astute for his time.

While Peter Lynch also suggested you buy what you know, he also set some general principles which were very different from the perceived Wall Street "wisdom". To his credit.

For example, he preceded the Motley Fool in suggesting that the individual investor trust him/herself. And that common stocks were a far superior investment to bonds. His bond recommendation was and is zero holdings for example. Likewise he suggested that bank CDs are only for limited funds and short term purposes - not retirement investing.

Also he tried to suggest that if you are over 50 you still might need growth investing for your next 30 years of life or so.

And his home run and "multibagger" terminology lives - especially on a baseball oriented thread like this one. :-)

But to me, as I suggested, his point that a couple of homeruns or multibaggers more than make up for a loser or two was eyeopening.

The Motley Fool is carrying his mantle in helping individual investors with the investment learning process. On that I think Mike Buckley and I agree.
