I ventured upon it when on a trip to Tennessee. Decided to stay in the Holiday Inn atop Afton Mountain.

That was in the 1990's.

At that time there was staff inside to welcome you and let you leisurely take your time.

When I walked in and saw it as an adult, I suddenly realized I had been there as a little girl-----when the Mansion was reopened after WWII.

For southern Virginia it was a big event. I was there for a reception---allowed to be there by the adults(old fashioned).
I simply recall the elegance, the statues. I was awed as a child and equally awed as an adult.

Very nice memories
