If really wanted to be an occupying force, we probably would have to have gotten troop levels up to 500K to make a difference in terms of better security. Marginal increases probably have little value. If I were a betting man, i think that within a year or two we will get the three state solution. Shiia state with an ally in iran should be safe from baath revanchism. The Kurds with our help can take care of the themselves. And the triangle can pit the baathists against the terrorists and they may end up destroying or exhausting each other to a point where a free, democractic state could arise. It is ironic that the Sunni triangle is where democracy could have its strongest roots if given a chance. Mike
