Do you --or do you know people who-- have watched the optical animation TOGETHER? Because that's the only "acid test" I can think of: two or more people watching the spinning girl together, ON THE SAME SCREEN, with one viewer seeing her spinning clockwise while his/her test mate sees her spinning counterclockwise. No, but they apparently did that in an office that is discussed in the description. Its real frustrating because I have tried to see it the other way with no success.
