rather a paternalistic ideology at odds with our historic commitment to individual liberty
My wife told me she explained it like this to her (very leftie) college employer co-workers. One of the doe-eyed people there said they were thankful that the poor would now have health insurance. Kristel explained that this bill first, makes you get health insurance because it presumes you are stupid and can't decide for yourself. Second, you don't get free healthcare (this co-worker thought all health care was going to be free now), you are mandated to pay for it. Third, if you don't pay for it, you'll pay a tax penalty. Fourth, if you don't pay, you go to jail. So, to recap, they're making you get insurance because they paternalistically assume you are stupid, and the poor (who cannot afford to pay the premiums now) are forced by law to buy it, pay a tax penalty, or go to jail.
Go to jail, stupid. |
