Network Appliance Delivers First Network Attached Storage Solution for Oracle8i? Appliance

NetApp© to Demonstrate Filer Attached Oracle8i Appliance at the European Oracle© User Group Meeting in Madrid, Spain, June 21-23, 2000

Madrid, Spain - June 21, 2000 -- Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content management solutions, announced today that its Network Appliance? storage appliances are the first Network Attached Storage (NAS) solution to support Oracle8i Appliances. Network Appliance solutions are ideal for data center and database applications because they deliver superior reliability, scalability and performance.

Network Appliance offers the only NAS solution certified by Oracle that supports Oracle8i Appliance version 1.3. NetApp allows the Oracle8i Appliance to deliver easy rack mounted modular solutions for the growing ISP/ASP market supported on standard industry protocols of Gigabit Ethernet, enabling users to integrate new appliances into their existing storage networking infrastructures.

The Oracle8i Appliance provides the most cost effective and reliable way to deploy Oracle's flagship Internet server with significantly less complexity than general-purpose servers. The integration will enable Oracle8i Appliance users to benefit from higher-speed data access and reduced data downtime via Network Appliance solutions that have demonstrated uptime greater than 99.99 percent.

"The information explosion created by the Internet requires storage solutions that can be quickly installed and easily managed," said Mark Santora, senior vice president of marketing at Network Appliance. "Integrating Oracle8i Appliances and Oracle database files on NetApp filers provides virtually unlimited scalability, improved reliability, thereby enhancing the capability to deliver outstanding customer service. Today's databases require a nimble approach and solutions that grow in Internet time and Network Appliance makes that possible."

"Network Appliance is the first company to offer Network Attached Storage solutions for the Oracle8i Appliance," said Simon Stow, Director of Internet Platform Marketing at Oracle EMEA. "The combination of Network Appliance filers with the Oracle8i Appliance brings together the ease of management and deployment of the Appliance with the flexibility of NAS to offer customers a 'no hassles' approach to rapid database deployment."

Network Appliance has dedicated resources assigned to make its products continually tune better for Oracle database environments and is focused on winning customers to NetApp solutions that are tailored for the new data center paradigm, which is built on speed and flexibility, not "big iron."
