As a counter point, was reminded this evening that the best of technology can still be dependent on fragile foundations. Was using The Goog to look up a famous old patent from 1943 regarding rum production, but The Goog was having trouble locating it. Turns out the problem was that someone - or someone's OCR - read the old typeset "rum" as "bum" - so I what I needed to be searching for was a patent titled "Production of Heavy Bums". google.ca (Yes, I am a distiller)
