I'm not an unbiased observer, I've long believed
in the personal computer, and I continue to.

Then we have to dismiss your belief as biased.

NCs require an expensive server at the center of the network.

Then why is NT going in that direction? (assumig the statement is correct)

This approach is a throwback to the days of the mainframe, when computing power was under central control

Guess what? Many CIOs, IS and IT professionals believe the maniframe is still alive and coming back more strongly.

To use a network computer you have to rewrite your pplications,

ONCE, and then it runs everywhere.

The NCs promise of letting an entire network be administered centrally presents an interesting challenge for PC hardware and software makers.

It does, and that's why you're freaking out. But then, why is NT moving into that direction?

If you log into somebody else's computer, your
information will be displayed. Software will be upgraded automatically.
Managing a network will be much simpler.

That's deep

Anyway just thought to share this article with all. One question I have and that is:
Could it be the fundamental belief of ...and only the paranoid survived... in which
Mr. Gates believes so strongly has caused a mental block for him to really think
logically this time around?!

He's always been that way, but this time around, there is a real challenge to him in NCs, Java et al. The mental block is more abvious today than ever.

just a HO
