NCOs It all went wrong at the start of WWII when General "Hap" Arnold, CG of the Air Force, demanded that all pilots be officers. The Navy and Marine Corps had NCO pilots at the start of WWII, but switched. Hap even tried to make them all College Grads, but was informed by Marshall that he could not do it. Warrant Officer is a good grade for a pilot. Lets him stay flying, or in this case operating a drone, without having to qualify for a leadership position.
