In regards to this recent week of pc problems [worms & virus]
... Windows pc users, especially the XP version, have decided
to wander deeper into danger rather than exit the Windows
[and] escape into the world of the Linux Penguin...
...
Myself having Windows 3.1 [but] i fear that i will soon join
the mob of screaming Windows XP folks when i switch from
my 15 year old 486 33 MegaHertz to a brand new desktop.
...
... [reason] not to switch into another browser like Opera,
or even learn another OS like Lindows ...
...
These recent hacker attacks use the internals of Windows.
...
... is it possible to turn off any of the functionality of Windows XP
that are entry points of the worms and virus, and replace these tasks
using another program, for example using one of those mail services
that are available as sharewear or part of a browser like Opera?
...
This approach to never use those functionalities of Windows XP
that allow hackers in, like the mail service, can be accomplished
in a safe method of a simple non-use.
.
But recent talk of a worm using an opened port would require one
to know the consequence to Windows XP if one obtained a patch
to prevent listening for interrupts, or if received, to ignore them.
.
While i heard folks say that the IE browser used on Windows XP
is now part of that OS, and cannot be fully removed, i'am willing
to uninstall it to the degree Bill Gates allows me to, and use Opera.
.
I'am willing to remove Windows XP files like dynamic link libraries,
or whatever my Windows 3.1 .DLLs are now called, if these allow
hackers to hack into my pc. I just need to know the names,
and obtain a substitute file of the same name that serves as
a NOP that does not cause Windows to crash or hang,
but simply not perform any code except for that task/thread
to do something like a pause forever, or do a wait forever
for a Windows service never to happen, when that .DDL is
called "in" by Windows.
.
This means i'am willing to pay for substitute software that either runs
as an external program to Windows, or pay for a .DLL file of same name
that was coded not by Microsoft, but will run inside Windows
and either provide that functionality with hacker protection,
or that mentioned service to just be ignored by Windows.
.
This i perfer over the current battles that i sense will be never ending.
.
Guess i'am saying, i get Windows XP and remove all initiation
or running or starting of software i do not need, or can duplicate
using an Opera browser and other "safe" bought software.

re: traditional anti virus/worm companies have been powerless
rager,
Thanks for that article.
"... is a real answer to this. A UK company has had
the te5chnology to stop all such attacks forever
and has been offering it for license for over one year.
The anti virus companies such as Symantec
and McAfee are just not interested.
Perhaps this begs another question..."

re: "Our GlassWall technology does not need updating.
Once installed -- it just stops all malicious code attacks,
including worms, virus, trojans and exploits forever."
