Greg: #1 I am NOT an old-time MIS. #2 I cut my teeth on LANs and WANs NOT 3274s and except when absolutely neccesary I avoid mainframes altogether. #3 There is an interesting misconception here that MIS didn't move to this paradigm. At any time in the last 13 years the generation of MIS workers to which *I* belong could be found under the hood of anything from an 8088 to a Tricord. Stringing CAT3 to terminating fiber. From loading NetWare4.1 to Windows 3.1.

If you folks are still living the bad old days of empire building/glass house MIS in the worst sense of the words, sorry 'bout that. That is not the world in which *I* work or come from.

*THEY* will be in for a rude awakening as will those that do not want the *current* PC paradigm to shift.

If it makes you happy, then screw the mainframe and that whole crowd. That is NOT the story here. If a mainframe can be recycled as a database or Web server, great. If not, so what. The story is the simplification of the desktop and the delivery of applications. Period.

Finally: FYI, I do NOT want or need an "empire". All I want is a 40hour work week and to have time on the weekends for my kids. And if you think my story is unique, pick up ANY trade rag and read...

Check it out,

Scott
