<font color=green>A.M. Best Sr. VP Larry Mayewski's comments were VERY positive!!!
"Mayewski said Best believes Conseco has made a lot of progress on its quest to regain its ``A-'' rating from the rating agency. Last month, A.M. Best changed the outlook on Conseco's rating to ``positive'' from ``negative'' after the insurer announced a deal with its banks to extend about $2 billion in debt.
``It's our view they've already achieved a lot of what they set out to do,'' said Mayewski. He stopped short of saying that Conseco could expect to get its A- rating back.
In the meantime, investors are waiting for Conseco's third quarter earnings Oct. 25. The insurer is expected to report third- quarter operating earnings of 23 cents a share against 66 cents a share a year ago, according to a survey by First Call/Thomson Financial.
``The insurance companies are operating within the band of expectations, which is positive."
