I'll tell you what turned me off of Compaq:

Lack of innovation, both in the lack of excitement in their product line-up, as well as their inability to offer a truly competitive price.

They can't compete with Dell on price because they are beholden to the very inefficient channel.

Where are there value priced large screen notebooks?

It's almost impossible to find a Compaq notebook with a 14.1" TFT screen, and when you do, it costs close to $5000. (And guess what, it is a repackaged Digital Hinote!) You can get one from Dell for well under $3000, and a 15" one from Dell for around $3000.

IBM is a more exciting company than Compaq, especially when it comes to innovation.

Gateway is more exciting than Compaq. Speaking of which, a Gateway buyout would at least show Compaq has a brain.
