Continental Starts Furlough Process
HOUSTON (Reuters) - Continental Airlines (NYSE:CAL - news), the nation's fifth-largest airline, on Thursday said it had begun the furlough process, closing a reservation center in Denver and a flight attendant base in Los Angeles.

The carrier last week said it would furlough about 12,000 employees and reduce its schedule by 20 percent following the attacks on the United States and the costs of dramatically increased security requirements.

Continental said all U.S.-based employees would be notified Thursday or Friday and that international employees would be notified by early next week, the company said.
