You want cynical? Why did the commanders of Pearl fear sabotage, and place the air fleet where they could easily be destroyed by air? Because General Short did fear sabotage from the local Japanese. He took the planes from revetments at the edge of the field and had them lined up in the middle of the field. Everybody missed an attack on Pearl. Everybody. The same way we missed 911, and for the same reasons. Arrogance and Racism.
