Senate Set to Vote on Airline Aid Package

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Congressional leaders have worked out their differences over a $15 billion bailout plan for the nation's airlines, clearing the way for votes later on Friday, Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle said.

``The negotiations on the airline legislation have just been concluded,'' Daschle, a South Dakota Democrat, said, adding that he expected a vote soon. The package has bipartisan support in both the House of Representatives and the Senate.

The relief plan includes $5 billion in cash aid and $10 billion in loan guarantees. The bill would also limit the liability of AMR Corp.'s (NYSE:AMR - news) American Airlines and UAL Corp.'s (NYSE:UAL - news) United Airlines, but the final details were not immediately available.

The industry, already struggling because of a weakened economy, was hit hard by the Sept. 11 hijack attacks in New York and Washington as business travelers and vacationers canceled or curtailed trips.
