a few random observations after running zap4.0 all morning...
the cache cleaning feature does not empty the index.dat file, but then i believe there are a few of them.
i have disabled my old pop up stopper program, NoAds, in favor of zap's stopper. so far it's performing admirably.
in order to access a site i use frequently, i have had to disable some privacy features that i had ratcheted way up, like the cookie control and the ad blocker, plus what zap calls mobile code controls, like embedded objects and mime-type integrated objects. but i turn it all back on as soon as i am done with that site.
i impatiently breezed through the 'learning phase' of the program controls and set the bar as high as it would go. this advanced control prevents malicious programs from hijacking trusted programs... probably would be fun to test tooleaky again.
i have to pick someone's brain on some of the advanced security options such as blocking fragments, blocking programs on my pc from acting as servers in the trusted zone AND the internet zone (sounds like a great way to stop a trojan server in its tracks), enabling ARP protection (huh?) and some other stuff about allowing uncommon protocols at high security.
there's lots more i could ramble on and on about, but suffice it to say i like the firewall's configurability, and i haven't even begun to scratch the surface of 'expert' rules creation and custom port permissions.
i still have to load zap4.0 on a couple other operating systems. i'm going to tweak it to my general liking here on win2000 before moving it onto winxp and win98se.
