Dealers reported that two big German insurers had been forced to liquidate their holdings of UK blue chips on the instructions of Frankfurt regulators, who were concerned at their solvency ratios. That meant a series of massive sell program trades, and heavy selling of FTSE 100 futures, which the insurers had used to hedge their portfolios....
